Waxing is a way of removing unwanted hair growth from the root. New hair can take up to 6 weeks to grow back depending on the individual's hair growth cycle.
If you've never tried Waxing, keep on reading to learn about its benefits and what to expect during a Waxing session.
Waxing
What is Waxing
Waxing is hair removal from the root. New hair will not grow back in the previously waxed area for four to six weeks, although some people will start to see regrowth in only a week due to some of their hair being on a different human hair growth cycle.

Almost any area of the body can be waxed, including eyebrows, face, bikini line, legs, arms, back, abdomen, knuckles, and feet.
Benefits of Waxing
Waxing lasts longer and will feel smoother than shaving because it pulls the hair from the roots, rather than cutting them off close to the skin.
There are no cuts or nicks that can leave you with scabs and scars.
For many people, waxing makes the hair grow slower and finer.
Waxing will make your skin feel smoother longer without feeling itchy, because of slower hair regrowth.
Contrary to popular belief, waxing is not always painful and in a lot of cases, regular waxing is almost pain-free.
Waxing is fast and convenient.
Skin is less susceptible to irritations associated with shaving. You can also use, hair growth retardants to slow down hair growth and minimise ingrown hairs, irritation, redness and bumps caused by shaving, waxing, hair removal cremes and electrolysis.
Risk Factors
If the area that you are getting waxed has broken, irritated or infected skin, then it would be best waiting until the area has healed to avoid spreading or making the infection worse.
You should avoid products with alpha-hydroxyl or glycolic acid 48 hours prior to facial waxing and avoid facial waxing altogether if using topical prescriptions such as Retin A, Renova or Differin.
If you are on drugs, such as antihistamines, tetracycline, cortisone, and blood-thinning and thyroid meds, they can increase sensitivity during waxing or lead to excess bleeding, so discuss this with your therapist prior to the treatment.
What to Expect
There are two different types of wax that can be used for your treatment. The therapist will decide on which one is best for you, depending on the area and hair type. After waxing a post-wax lotion is applied to help heal the skin, reduces redness and leave the skin feeling silky smooth.
It’s a good idea to wear loose, comfortable clothing and smooth, breathable knickers if you’re getting a bikini wax. It's best to keep the waxed area cool and avoid any friction.
It's good to bear in mind that in order for the wax to adhere to the skin better, it’s advisable to skip lotions or oily products before your waxing appointment. The area is cleansed thoroughly before getting started, but you ideally want to give yourself the best chance of a smooth and good result.
The types of wax that might be used are either ‘hot wax’ or ‘Strip wax’.
Hot wax is best for small and inmate areas as the wax sticks to the hair rather than the skin. This can reduce the pain of waxing by 50%! And helps reduced inflammation, redness. The wax is applied with a spatula and one once it has dried hard it is removed with no need of strips.
Stripe wax is best for larger areas like legs and forearms. It is quicker to apply and remove. It is generally better for thicker hairs as it grips strongly to the hairs. The wax is applied thinly with a spatula and removed with fabric strips.
